Ravnica Expedition Corp
The Ravnica Expedition Corp (REC) is a newly formed, special joint venture between all ten guilds of Ravnica, established approximately five years after the War of the Spark. Following the invasion by Nicol Bolas's forces, the general public became aware of the infinite multiverse, leading to an outcry for knowledge about other worlds. In response, the REC was created to send Ravnicans into the multiverse to recruit powerful allies and study foreign cultures.
Leadership and Administration
The organization is under the direct control of Niv-Mizzet, the current Living Guild pact. Its day-to-day operations are overseen by a specific leadership team:
- Commander Lionel: A Leonin who trained under Ajani. He swore his allegiance to Niv-Mizzet after witnessing the dragon’s rebirth and now leads the Corp.
- Isham (Quartermaster): A gnome and former Orzhov accountant who left the syndicate to serve Niv-Mizzet directly.
- Shiss: A mysterious, cloaked informant with a raspy voice who serves as the liaison to all guilds and manages the job board.
Travel and Technology
The Corp utilizes the Planar Gate, a perfected version of the dangerous Planar Bridge. While the original technology could only move non-living matter, Izzet League research and various "experiments" involving goblin sacrifices volunteers have made it a safe and effective way for living beings to travel between planes. Recruits are warned that while handleable, the sensation of planeshifting can be physically taxing.
Guild Liaisons
The REC acts as a hub where various guilds provide expertise or request specific samples from other worlds:
- Simic Combine: Represented by
DoctopusStraken, they use the REC to study xenobiology. - Izzet League: Doctor Magnificent, a goblin driven mad by the Firemind, studies extraplanar artifacts.
- Selesnya Conclave: Gold-leaf acts as an envoy interested in importing peaceful flora and fauna.
- Gruul Clans: Grug, an orc beastmaster, tames rampaging monsters brought through the gate and uses them to train recruits for the rigors of planar travel.
- Boros Legion: Envoys known as Rank and File provide additional manpower and training for missions.
- Orzhov Syndicate: Casper is a ghost who handles payroll and offers loans to recruits.
- Azorius Senate: Justice, a Vedalken judge, studies the laws and customs of other worlds.
- Golgari Swarm: Twinless, a jackal zombie from Amonkhet, acts as an envoy to study the necromancy of other worlds.
- Cult of Rakdos: Mephisto, a demon master of ceremonies, seeks bloody tales from across the multiverse.
