A Day at the Beach

Job Name

The Crystal-Coast Cull

Job Description

The Simic Combine has a theory that the mutated crystalline scales of Ikornian sea-life can stabilize our own Krasis growth chambers. We’ve tracked a Glimmer-Back Leviathan (sub-adult) to the shallow reefs of the Copper Coast on Ikoria.

Local reports from the "Bonders" suggest this specimen is "unstable" and hyper-aggressive, likely due to a recent mutation. The Simic want its primary dorsal crystal harvested and a vial of its pressurized ink. Be careful, the Copper Coast is beautiful, but the local predators use that beauty to lure in the unwary.

Client Offered Reward

  • 750 Zinos (125 per recruit - hazard pay included)

  • 3x Diver's Charms (One-time use: Gain a swim speed of 30ft and the ability to breath underwater for 10 minutes)

  • Simic Renown (+1 Renown with the Simic guild)

Below this section for Ravnica Expedition Corp use only!

Rank Required

New Recruits / Fresh Blood. Commander's Note: This shouldn't be too tough. If you can handle a planeshift without losing your lunch you can handle a literal day at the beach.

Notes:

Ikoria isn't like the Tenth District; everything is bigger and badder on Ikoria. And no living creature stays the same for very long. You’re looking for a Glimmer-Back. It’s about the size of a carriage and looks like a cross between a shark and a crystal formation.

Your Objectives:

  1. Slay the Beast: We need that dorsal crystal intact. If you shatter it with a clumsy hammer blow, the Simic won't pay a copper. Don't rupture the ink sack as you harvest it. It does not wash out.

  2. Live Capture: The Simic want two of its spawn (juveniles) brought back in the containment jars. They’re about the size of a house cat and bite just as hard. This is optional but Straken is willing to sweeten the deal if you can bring them back.

My advice stay in the shallows. If you see something in the deep water that looks like a mountain moving... it is. Don't be a hero. Get the samples, get the spawn, and get back to the Ravnica. -- Lionel, Commander of the Corp

Supplemental Briefing: Subject "Ikoria"

Liaison: Straken, Simic Biomancer

"Listen closely, recruits. You are used to the biological certainty of Ravnica—a lizard is a lizard, a krasis is a krasis. Ikoria is... fluid. The crystals on that plane emit a resonance that triggers 'Rapid Spontaneous Mutation.'

Do not assume the creature you find at noon is the same creature you are fighting at sunset. If the beast begins to glow or its flesh starts to ripple, do not panic. It may sprout extra appendages, develop elemental breath, or suddenly double in size. From a research perspective, this is fascinating! From your perspective, it is likely 'deadly.'

Important: If it starts mutating, try to find the source of the mutation. The Simic Combine would pay dearly to understand the catalyst. Just... try not to let it mutate into something that can swallow all of you at once."
